Engineering
Also known as "tracking."
This is where an engineer records the band to Pro Tools. It can be done "live" with the full band or tracked out by single instruments.
Mixing
This is where the engineer (sometimes even a completely different one) makes the sweet loving to the sounds the engineer recorded and does his magic of taking 24-96 tracks into stereo.
A good one can make an ok record sound much better.
A bad one can make a great record sound like doo doo.
Producing
A bit more difficult and ranging explanation. Can be anything from simply getting the band on their "A Game" to rearranging, writing, etc...Whatever the case may be, the producer is in charge of how the record will ultimately sound.
Make sure you get this one right.
Nashville Style Demo
This is based on the popular style in Nashville where songwriters bring in a "worktape" which generally consists of a rough guitar and vocal. Then we bring in studio musicians to record the song under Daniel's supervision. The song is recorded and mixed quickly but effectively.
Very useful to songwriters who are writing for the purpose of shopping their material to other artists.
Mastering
This is where the mix engineers work sees it's final coat of polish. In the case of a full length record, it is also the mastering engineers job to "level" out the record so the songs have a good flow sonically.
Basic Studio and Pro Tools Tutoring
